He was happy enough to redesign the Vanwall as much as he was allowed, and to help out with the BRM P25.
I think everyone was shocked by the weight of the H16, but the contemporary Honda, Maserati and Ferrari lumps were heavy too. Seems like only Repco and Cosworth built engines of reasonable mass.

Methinks that Chapman got well recompensed for his Vanwall efforts, he was never short in asking for consultancy money. He didn't so much as revamp a Vanwall, but designed a new chassis. Then got Frank Costin employed to do the body, which he did mathematically on wall paper on the dining room floor.
