200,000 Miles Today! Elise S1

PostPost by: JohnP » Fri Dec 09, 2016 12:48 pm

Just thought I'd let you know I turned 200K miles in my Elise today.
I've done most of them as fast as I can and with the roof down.

Well done John. I must say I do like the look of your Elise with plenty of 'patina'!

p1020997.jpg and
With the Plus 2 which is kept a little cleaner
p1030790.jpg and
Patina!!! Today's patina from M25
Patina is a nice word for it thankyou Mark.

The Elise is an absolutely fantastic car. It has been really reliable and given us huge fun for years. I bought the Plus 2 because our daughter is too big to fit behind the seats of the Elise the family PASSAT chugger was getting a bit unreliable.

It can't have done 200k on the original 'K' series engine, surely John? I thought the head gasket went every 37,320 miles! Or is that just bar chat?

Just to keep me out of the pub for a while, I went through the invoices.

Here is the work done other than routine servicing, brakes, tyres, a load of track rod ends, ball joints, coils distributor caps and temperature sensors.

54K Exhaust box
91K Exhaust down pipe replaced
93K Cylinder head gasket
158K New heater
164K Exhaust down pipe, steering rack
176K Top hose
178K Alternator
185K New floor, new soft top
186K Head gasket
196K Fuel Pump
199K Alternator.

The car is used nearly daily and kept outside on the street.

Not bad for a LOTUS!

Fingers crossed for another 100K.

Out of interest, what was the "new floor" about ? Was it pitting underneath the original rubber mats or something else ?

You did well with your exhaust boxes. I think I had to replace the first one before it's first MoT as the rear pipework had corroded beyond bodging. The second lasted fractionally longer until somewhere around 6-7 years old I gave up and fitted a stainless "sports" exhaust. I should have done that the first time around, it's nothing like as noisy inside as I expected.

Brian

ps - very impressed at 200k though..... should we change it to "Lots Of Toy, Unusually Sound "
