Aluminium Radiator off Ebay in Australia

PostPost by: EdHolly » Sat Sep 17, 2016 11:51 pm

Just completed my S2 Lotus Seven and bought off Ebay an ally radiator which cost $125 at the front door complete with shroud and fan. How they do it for this price I don't know. The one I chose was from a Honda Civic which has a central inlet at the top and a side outlet correct side at the bottom and was a 3 row one. The quality of the welding is superb and now the car is running it works terrific, in 18C deg ambient runs about 160F on the gauge. If in traffic with the fan off, if temp is allowed to build up to around 200, the fan brings it down quite quickly. The engine is a Cortina 1500 pre-crossflow with about 11.3 comp, big valve head and something like a 3/4 race cam, I would imagine about 130bhp. It sure is FUN to drive and can't wait to get it fully run in !

I have no affiliation with this company, just wanted to pass on my experience in case someone needs a new rad and weren't sure if these were any good. The only thing I have found is the drain plug is a little suspect, a plastic affair with no recess for a simple O ring, I made a new one out of ally with a land to capture the O ring and stop it deforming by being squashed against 2 flat surfaces.

Here is the link, they have many other varieties that might be more suitable to other applications - just visit their store.

Very pretty little car, well done. Would like one of these myself one day.
Just missed out on a resto project S2 the other day.

Looks too tall and slim for an Elan from the pictures. A VW Golf ally radiator is the right shape and size and is easily plumbed and probably as cheap or cheaper..

Nigel

Any fitment issues with a Golf rad?

I am installing a Zetek in a S4 Sprint coupe and the origional radiator looks very minimal to me.
