Grassroots Motorsports Lotus Project

I just came across this and hope I'm not duplicating a prior post. The comments and suggestions are a good read. It will be interesting to see what transpires. Or I'll make the editor an offer on the Elan (to go with my S3). Follow the link below:

Is there anything usable off that Elan? I'm thinking serial number is about it.

I was lying on the couch the other day, recovering from surgery. There came a knock at the door, it was Tim Suddard himself. We had a very nice visit, and it was nice to meet someone who has a worse starting point than I do.

If the price was right I wouldn't have hesitated on that car. Splicing fiberglass isn't all that difficult.

I like this quote from the article

"The Elan, in contrast, is the total package. It serves up stunning looks, great handling, and a level of comfort rarely felt in a sports car. The Elan would be the best car in the world if Lotus had spent a little more time on quality control and durability."

In my opinion an Elan that has been properly re-built with sensible modifications achieves just that - quality, durability and it is the best car in the world !

cheers

Hey Mom,
That's MY car! The very same one that is on the GRR journey in the next post. Now it has been over 110 MPH at Talledega, up to the top of Pikes Peak a few weeks ago and now has another 2,500 miles on it. Who says Elans lack "durability"?
