Towergate seem best for me. No increase in premium for the mods!
?99.61 + ?43 for uk and Europe breakdown and recovery.

Beats Footman James by a clear ?100 !!

Regards,
Stuart.

Stuart,

Interesting that the total is about the same as mine, but the breakdown is different.

I shall wait for Carole Nash before deciding.

I was never happy with the breakdown cover from Footman James and I would not want any breakdown cover from my insurance company. I have RAC cover on my everyday car anyway which covers me for the Lotus. For european cover I pay a small extra charge per trip and have the best cover possible. I am happy that Towergate are value for money - at the moment!

Hi Chris,

could you elaborate on why you weren't happy with the Footman James breakdown cover? I'm with FJ and the only time I have had to use this was when they towed my car home 1/4 mile after it was written off..

I also have FJ insurance and had to use them a couple of years ago to recover my Europa which had brake problems, they were very good with this and I was quite impressed with the service at the time.
They seem to be lacking a bit lately with the admin around the renewal procedure as it took five phone calls to get my current insurance in place for which I pay ?90 for fully comp which includes European breakdown and legal cover.
Agreed value of ?13000 with 1500 miles per year.

just got my FJ quote. 5000 miles, ?6000 agreed value, ?190 cost..
felt it was a bit stiff, but thought I would deal with it when the car was back on the road..

The reason I ditched FJ (apart from the cost ) was that when I was going to Classic Le Mans last year I looked at what was actually covered under the breakdown insurance. It appeared that if I broke down they would bring the car back to the UK. This would mean me cutting short the trip. With the RAC, if the car couldn't be repaired straight away, a hire care would be provided along with hotel etc if mid trip. If the car needed to be brought home then that could be done without spoiling the trip, other than the fact that it would proceed with a hire care and not the Lotus! Hotels would be provided etc etc.
The cost of the RAC cover was more than offset by the saving with Towergate.
Looking at the breakdown cover with FJ I decided that it really wasn't worth having.
Others may disagree.
