I would veer towards coil as it sounds like your "bang" is occurring at the wrong moment.

Cheers Guys, I will add these to the list of checks this weekend, although the coil is fairly new I know these have a habit of breaking down

Sounds like a fuel feed problem. Make sure you have good breathing to the tank, and aren't creating a vacuum. Check pump operation, and that there's no crud in the line. Do you have a filter? Maybe it's blocked, or partially so?
Good luck!

Hi All,
Car has been running nicely for a few weeks now and with both myself and my son sharing the car now (He turned 25 late July so Insurance companies suddenly seem to think he's at an acceptable age to cope with the Elan power ) it is getting more use.
Took time to do some checks on plugs etc and noticed that the oil in the dashpots had gone down again, this was something highlighted to check earlier in the topic.
The question I have is how often should one need to top the Dashpots up with oil? are we talking each month or should it remain intact for a while longer.
Maybe time for the car to have a bit of a once over from an expert in the field of Stromberg Carburettors. Has anyone any experience of anyone based in the North West of England that I might be able to take the car to for this type of setting up, perhaps they might even have a rolling road to put the car on and get it really set up right?

My car doesn't get out as often as it should but I find the Strombergs need topping up most months.
I read the original post ( scanned it) and hope you have braided hoses now to the carbs?
Also, do check for loss of vacuum at the T piece which sometimes splits.
