Exhaust Manifold Paint/Plating

PostPost by: William2 » Wed Jan 28, 2015 5:29 pm

Once I have removed the surface rust from my S4 exhaust manifold I was wondering what the options are on protecting it with either aerosol paints or some kind of metal finishing. Can anyone advise me on this?

The cheapest option would be to spray the manifold using a good quality VHT spray paint, to get a nice application try and get some warmth into the tubing before spraying.

Get it ceramic coated.

I have just fitted a ceramic coated Manifold to my Elan and apart from the grubby marks being white i was surprised how much it has reduced the engine bay heat around that side, only down side is it isn't cheap.

+1 for ceramic coating! If you were in the USA I'd recommend Jet-Hot, David Porter has them on his S4 (dpchamp) & they look stunning.

You can get metallic finish ceramic coatings. They stay clean and shiny and don't mark, it protects the headers from corrosion both inside and outside and reduces engine bay heat .Not cheap but a worthwhile investment IMHO.

The TTR headers on my Elan have stayed like this for the past 5 years since fitted.

I've used Zircotec ceramic coating on BD primaries. The coating is pricey, but it really works and is pretty robust. Next time I take the engine out I'll be doing the same to the Twin Cam.

They're not far from Abingdon.

+1 for Zircotec but be sat down when you get the quote.

On our RX7 Race car we had the Exhaust manifold,Turbo Turbine housing and Down pipe coated inside and out and the bill came to just shy of ?700 but that said its well worth it.

Zircotec seem to get more expensive every time we use them!

If you are in the USA, try Swain Coatings. Located in Scottsville, NY

I coated the headers on my Caterham many years ago.

A friend of mine has just used this place http://new.ospreyceramiccoatings.co.uk/ and the price was quite reasonable but we've not had chance to give it some abuse yet.

I have used Camcoat and wouldn't recommend them, there coating only lasted 12 months before it started to come off and there customer service was bad.
