mild steel silencer

PostPost by: c.garde » Wed Apr 18, 2018 11:40 am

Gentlemen and Lotus nerds,

Can anybody please comment on the Kelvedon mild steel silencer ?.
Noise , quality of build , fit ?
My current silencer is ( I am led to believe ) a ss copy of the orig. Lotus Sprint silencer .
Although I have introduced a cherry bomb ( to Rohans suggestion ) I still think it is too loud .

Best regards

Loud is where it is with sprint box.
My wife used to reckon she could hear me coming home from a mile away across the fields when we live in North Yorkshire.
From the gearchanges she knew exactly where I was on the road!
My only comment on the Kelvedon box is that it is a hell of a lot of money.
I suppose hand made limited runs turn out like that and they do say that they are trying to recover development costs.
I'll try to post a video somehow.

Good timing as I had one fitted to my Elan today. The pipe had to be tweaked to fit. I had a stainless steel one before, which sounded great but was a little loud when I opened up the car. First impression, having only taken the car round a few blocks, is that it is a little quieter but the sound immediately takes me back to when I had my first Sprint in the 1970s. In short, it sounds like a proper Elan. Yes they are expensive but for me icing on the cake so far as my Elan is concerned. Jim

As promised earlier I've finally worked out how to upload a video to YouTube.
This is my son taking his father in law for a spin the day after his wedding - the sound persists long after the car is out of sight - is it too noisy?

" nice video , shame about the music" :-)

With these video abilities it would be interesting to see ( I mean of course listen to ) a direct comparison to a now a days std. ss equipped sprint ?

But thanks a lot anyway. Very informative.
