Otter switch grommit leaks

PostPost by: richardcox_lotus » Sun Oct 22, 2017 6:59 pm

So the Elan let me down today, pi$$ing our its water. Luckily I was by a pub car park.....
At the time I thought the rad had split under the header tank, as it was pouring under the top hose, although the hose isn?t split.

When I investigated back at Home, it?s clear the otter switch is truggling to stay seated, and water flows round the corner lip to the back of the rad.

The grommit looks intact, but I can?t work out how to get an effective seal. The header is brass, any suggestions please ?

Thanks
Richard

Used to be. Not sure when it was removed. Have the spring clip thingy but obviously not man enough. I?ll get some wiring pliers and have a play.

Thx

I believe there is a Volvo rubber seal which works better ....... Volvo part # 1378869 ........ see here

Several sources on ebay.

I have found that trying to seal an old grommet does not work. The rubber hardens, get dirty and oily. Much better to buy a new grommet and away you go. It will seal from the off.

+1 new grommet + silicone but still secure in place with wire or ty-wraps. Fill with antifreeze and not tap water
