Early 'Carello' Plus 2 for sale - UK

PostPost by: dunclentdr » Sun Nov 08, 2015 7:01 pm

My original intention was to have a pair or Elans - S3 DHC and Plus 2 but now that there is an S1 and Europa here too, one has to go!!

For anyone who follows ebay you will have seen my Plus 2 for sale over the summer - it sold twice but both times let down by someone who pressed 'buy it now' without proper means, so I have decided to advertise on this LotusElan.net and also the Facebook Owner's Forum.

Over the time I have owned the car, since summer 2013,I have spent a lot of time, effort (and money) to get it right.

The car is a very early Plus 2 ? it is car number 016_ making it one of the important group of first c180 cars characterised by the Carello rear lights and also by other points including transverse rear box on the exhaust. It is a 'F' registration.

I have details of all the owners back to 1967 from the DVLA. The car has its original engine, matching those records.

In the late 1990s it was owned by Alan Allison, founding member of the North Yorkshire Lotus Owners Club. Alan found the car in a garage in Darwen (Lancs). A new galvanised chassis was fitted and a full body restoration and paint in Carnival Red. Alan sold the car, nearly finished, in 2001 to fund a S4 FHC.

Since buying the car I have concentrated on a full suspension and brake restoration as well as improvements to the fuel system.

The improvements have been overseen by the team at Paul Matty and include:-

New rear hub carriers (TTR)
Adjustable rear shocks, shocker tubes and springs (TTR)
Syder semi-solid driveshafts
New outer shafts and wheel bearings
Adjustable front shocks (TTR)
New front springs
Fully refurbished brake calipers
New bushes all round
New brakes discs and pads
New master cylinders
Braided brake hoses
In addition I have had a new set of Webers fitted by Aldon (the original matching pair are available, not refurbished) and a full rolling road set up (101bhp at flywheel).

I have had a rear lap belt fitted and also the car has Aldon Ignitor electronic ignition.

The car has matching Dunlop P6 tyres, powder coated steel wheel and new chrome spinners. The interior is in very good condition and chrome work is good.

The 15 year old paint is good ? there is no micro-blistering, a couple of small splits in the paint and overall it has kept a very nice colour and shine.

I would like to get ?14950 for the care - compared with a a 'cheap' ?10-11k Plus 2 it represents great value as the parts and work done come to approaching ?6k!

Please do call me with questions and/or to arrange a viewing ? David 07880 792388

Thank you!

I have amended the photos slightly as one showed the interior prior to fitting of proper door cards.
