I bought this car in spring with the idea of doing a mechanical restoration and leaving the body as is. But in the months since it arrived, I've adjusted the passenger door and purchased a set of keys. I have two other needy vintage cars, a 5-year-old, and little time to play in the garage. So this one should go.

It's a '66 FHC (3223552) that I bought from the estate of SCCA driver Bud Grocki in Massachusetts. He bought the car new, and raced it extensively in the Solo II class, culminating in winning the '73 New England Division Solo II Championship and placing third in the national championship that year. The car comes with lots of racing and other documentation and memorabilia, including time sheets, photographs, multiple trophies and cups, dash plaques from Watkins Glen and other tracks, Grocki's racing jackets and a speeding ticket.

Grocki was a strong driver, but the evidence suggests he wasn't much of a mechanic or steward. :) The engine (numbers matching with Webers) starts on remote power and fuel, but I would assume it needs to be refreshed, like much of the car. The Lotus was stored in a garage since the 1980s, covered with boxes. The body has cracks and spidering. I planned for a new wiring harness, as I always take the easy way out with electrical. The frame looks good, except for a crack just below the passenger side motor mount, likely from dumping the clutch on take-off. Interior is stock. Seats are pretty nice. Headliner has tears. The car rolls.

The photo I included here is the "good side." The car is a project. Please email joe.eaton at mso.umt.edu for more detailed photos.

Extras--
Raid and OEM wood steering wheel.
1598cc Kent Crossflow Block TI4 711M6015BA
Three 5.5 inch Lotus wheels
Mass "LOTUS-E" License Plate
Workshop manual and master parts list

Asking $17, which is what I paid for it. Open to trades plus money for complete Elan or 7. Perhaps a Series 1 Europa. Also in need of longhood Porsche parts, particularly engines. Car is located in Missoula, Montana.

Bud Grocki... I completed against him (he always won) and rode with him once as he demonstrated his driving style on a Solo II course - sideways, windows up to keep the tire smoke and flying rubber bits out of the car. Good luck with the sale, it will be an interesting project for someone.

I love the sound of a torque wrench in the morning. Sounds like... progress.

Thanks, Andrew. I'd love to chat to learn more about Bud and the history of the car. Here are a couple of photos. The jacket Bud is wearing and the trophy he is holding are included.
