Steering rack stop size?

PostPost by: Elseezed » Tue Jan 31, 2017 6:19 am

Found that my steering rack is missing the short stop on the pinion side. W/shop manual does not show overall length of the stop (including the locknut). Can these be bought or will I have to make one?
One post did say 9/32" excluding locknut.
Thanks Les.

Les,

According to Brian Buckland the short stop should be 0.281" for the Elan S1-S3 and 0.53" for the Elan S4 & Sprint.

The long stop should be 1.75" for Elan S1-S3 and 2.0" for the Elan S4 & Sprint.

Thanks Richard,
For my +2, because my long stop is 1.75" it makes sense to make my spacer 0.281 and weld it to the locknut. Just need to find a local engineering shop now.

Success, Andy at Shrigley Engineering (Manchester)made the stop and it's now fitted.
