Salut
I think this was discussed but no one here has done it as far as I know. The furthest I got was a quote to re-silver a roof. The discussion said that the form of the Elan/+2 might not be suited so I suppose you should take the car to a wrapper to see what they say and get a quote - not cheap, I believe; so choose the most durable finish - can't decide if mat carbon would look cool - anyone a photo-shopper ?

when I was looking for a project car I looked into this and got quotes for wrapping.....IIRC it was still about ?1200
many finishes and colours available........
however I bought the car in the right colour for me so didn't need it......
I have had a CF hard top for my M100 wrapped......took them about 2hrs and cost me ?150.....
I think its pretty good.....and will generally outlast the paint......at least it should keep hidden any form of cracking....

I?m glad this subject has come up again.
I?ve been looking into a vinyl wrap for my plus 2 since before Christmas but there have been mixed reports on its suitability for fiberglass. Piston heads had some interesting blogs one on a fiberglass TVR with mixed comments on the suitability. Interestingly i found from conversations in the pub that boat owners don't share the same concerns as car owners?
There are a number of positive and negative points that I?ve come across which include:
Unrealistic quotes referring to a vinyl warps capability and life expectancy. I found that quotes vary depending on product (3M , Avery or other makes) and some specialists were quite liberal as to what it can achieve; I remain cautious.
Value for money is the major driver for me:) The previous owner of my plus 2 saw the paintwork badly decay over 7 years. In an attempt not to repeat this I?d want a better return on a re-spray?if not, I?ll wrap it 2 or 3 times for the same cost.
Some time ago I took a piece of Vinyl Wrap and covered a small area of my spare bonnet.
The surface was poorly prepared before application of the vinyl, with a wash and a little sanding which left plenty of cracks. I did this to see how it would cover blemishes and to see how it copes with adhesion to fiberglass in all weathers. So far I?m surprised as to how well it covered the uneven surface.
I know this isn?t scientific but I?ve contacted 3M head office at Bracknell to discuss the subject further.
When I make my decision I?ll update the blog as too the cost, material and how it wears.
I?ll attach some pictures which I took today prior to writing these comments. You can see the bonnet surface is not in great condition and the contrast of the colour and surface.
I hope this helps to spark debate and help my judgement.
Regards
SI

trouble with wrapping elans is lack of discrete panels and all the curves . You'd have lots of joins ...
would be interesting to hear if anyone does get round to trying it out tho'!
Saw a roller in west london with red chrome wrap . it looked awesome !

There is a chrome wrapped Esprit in the UK:

Not sure I'd personally go with chrome on a plus 2, but this Esprit looks pretty awesome IMO!

As a owner of a poorly repainted +2 this idea had crossed my mind as a solution until I want to do a strip and re spray. Not done anything about it thou.
So interested to hear any input people have, feedback from the "wrappers" or personally experience if any one has actually had this done.

Never been too keen on the idea particularly these Matt black wraps then saw someone had taken a new F type Jag to be wrapped in jaguar racing green and was horrified by the thought but it was stunning in the Jaguar section of the forums on Pistonheads
