alternative seats that fit?

I'm using a pair of Corbeau seats in my Elan S2. An optional base for the Elan was available and they fit perfectly using the original clamps. I recovered them because the original cloth covering was loaded with circular metal vents which make an interesting burn pattern on your legs if the car has been out in the sun for a while.

With a little searching of the archives and manufacturer's sites, this is what I have found (havent hit the IKEA site yet):
cobra racer 7
cobra clubman
cobra imola (with trimming of outside shoulder support, also a bit tall)
kirkey 16 series (bit tall)
kirkey 47 series (bit tall and trim outside shoulder support)
sparco speed 2 (maybe fit?)
motordrive 7-type
TTR
I'm saying the seat base has to be under 19.5", width at shoulders 20inches, and anything above 33" is getting tall, especially if you put some sort of frame under it.

We used a Kirky seat some 10 years ago. web page is http://kirkeyracing.com/index.php?link=home
Worked well but needed some work to attach to the roll cage. Prices are in the $150 up range. SCCA approved

When I was at the Bronte Park Canada car show last Sept, there was a blue Elan, highly modified with a bunch of vents in the bonnet. It had a set of Corbeau seats in it that fit great. I have tried to get in touch with the owner to get the exact model with no luck. If someone knows him, see if you can find out. Failing that, what are the exact model number of the seats in this post?

They look like GT4's, especially with the description of metal eyelets. They came in either vinyl or cloth trim, both with metal eyelets, very 60s GT40 style !

I had a cloth-trimmed pair in my S3 elan in the late 70/80s which also had side slots for a 4-point harness. They were a tight fit and I remember squeezing the sides very slightly to get them in. They are much lighter than the original seats, very comfy and the eyelets never bothered me but I replaced them with the originals once re-trim kits started to appear on the market.

I have fitted the Motordrive seat,FIA approved , and it fits like a glove....Was a bit conserned abt the height, but took the cushions out, and got nice clearence between helmet and hardtop....The latest helmets are huge (!) , but with my 174 cm it is no problem. Price is OK too.
The TTR "26R replica seat" is nothing for the track asking me....It has no head support, and is not very strong at all. Flexes in curves, and I managed to rip one in two parts in a shunt.....Dangerous! Stupit FIA rules (!) allows them though, as they class in as "original"......

Hi
I am running elise seats in my road going elan - really comfy and come with head rest built in AND they clear the rear roll hoop and I am 6'1"!
In the modsports car I am building I am using the tillet carbon seat that I got cheap. Its the one where you are virtually lying down (like the Reverie one but more laid back). We fitted a frame for it so the rounded bottom is at floor level and I end up looking through the bottom of the screen.
Not sure if it will help or not but it expands the debate.
I'll try to attach a photo of the elise seats
Good luck
Gavin

One day I'll actually finish - completely - one day....

I use the Motordrive seat. It's FIA approved, they'll make it in various materials, color of your choice and fit it to your size. They'll also embroider a logo or your name etc on it.. Great service and fits perfectly!

Hi,
