Steve

I have used the Quaiffe for a number of years. It is a torsen style lsd that limits relativel spin rate between the 2 wheels by friction in the spiral gear train in the diff centre. The quaiffe cetre bolts straight in with no mods need to standard diff. Works great for both race starts and coming out of corners to limit one wheel spinning in an uncontrolled way . No signficant impact on turn in or understeer.

Never used and dont know anything about the other 2 types you list.

Hi Steve

I am interested in sorting out some sort of lsd solution for my plus 2. Please let me know if you come up with a low cost answer! I used to spin 1 wheel often on my daily station run. Once where I turned sharp left on a steep hill, and once turning right at the bottom of a hump back bridge. I nearly spun the car doing 10 mph once.

I have used clutch type [ Tran X and salisbury ] JackKnight and Quaiffe. I like the Quaiffe ebst BUT you have to be careful about a wheel in the air as it gets all confused - driver usually does as well!
If going Tran X they are very good with different pre loads -low for the Elan - and also various ramp angles to minimise corner entry understeer.
My amateur summary with Elans and HP from 130 to 280 is the Quaiffe si veruy good for weekend racers - me - but the Tran X and Salisbury can be half a second faster. The Qaiffe probably better for tighter tracks, and of course no tuning ramp angles and so on with the fun of taking the diff apart every time!
