Full Roll Cage

Searched the archives, but couldn't find any photos of a full roll cage installation.

I am looking at fitting a Safety Devices cage but need to know the location of the front floor bar as I have a floor mounted pedal box. TTR don't have any measurements.

Anyone fitted one of these cages? If so, could you measure from the front of the footwell to the bar for me?

Do you mean the floor bar connected to the sill bar or the floor bar which is a continuation of the cage past the windscreen?

Photo attached of the front bar relative to the pedals. The chassis mounting position is through the normal bobbin in the body.

Hi Andy

Great, that confirms the photo sent to me by TTR. I reckon that I can pull the pedal box forward to clear the tube without compromising seating position as seat and steering wheel aren't finalised and I am using flappy paddles.

Andy, how much of a PITA was fitting that pedal box? Is it the Kelsport item?

Can anyone tell me whether the tube gets in the way of your heels when using the clutch and accelerator?

Yes it is a Kelsport peddle box, Not too difficult to fit, I had to glass up the existing holes and reinforced the bullhead with additional glass fibre, others I think use sheet metal. The steering column clamp clashed with the peddle box so needed to modify the steering column by grinding out the flat further up the column and then had to repostion the handbrake to the other side of the column,

Then did it again as had set the peddles too low!

Mounting the pedals on the floor was a whole lot easier :-)

My sport is historic rallying, not racing but I don't understand how floor-mounted pedal boxes could be legal on an Elan.

Period FIA regs allow for the modification of existing parts (like the fitting of balance bars, tandem cylinders, hydraulic clutch master cylinders etc.) where their replacement is not specifically allowed. I can't find any reference of their replacement being allowed in FIA App.J Groups 1 to 5.

Please direct me to the relevant regs.

With regard to legality, Greg, I am not running in any competitions so regs aren't an issue for me.

but you have to replace those heavy brass brake pushrod connectors with titanium :lol:
