The body is off the chassis and in storage - major rust and deterioration of the chassis and components!

Plan is to replace all of the chassis, suspension and running gear, found a cosy (US) mouse nest with nuts in the front chassis turret!

So how on earth did you get the body up into the rafters ?

Thats the worst rust I've ever seen in an Elan chassis, it must have been a regular driver on heavily salted roads or sat on ground/in water hole for the backbone to be that far gone!!!

The rust is worse than it looks in the pictures! Parts of the chassis have just gone - think it was standing rather than driven in this state.

The body is in the rafters with the help of 4 strong 18 year old lads!

It's been a while since an update on my GTS project (have had to register under a new name too as problems with password etc).

Anyway, here are some pics of the 26R chassis and front end which is now largely done.

Engine is away and nearly complete, CR gearbox done and diff with LSD complete.

Believe it or not I have a project plan that will have in complete by March 2018 - bodywork and final assembly by a respected motorsport engineer. Will post more frequently now!!

It's going to be a S1 GTS by the way, French blue like the Shapecraft one in the picture.

Hi,
Nice work.
Whose front hubs have you used? They look to have a longer thread than the TTR ones.

Hi Graeme

Thanks.

The hubs are from Kelvedon:-

I' ve gone the TTR route.
Oddly I was speaking to Tony earlier today asking him if he would produce a longer hub for me such that it could accommodate a spinner locking wire. I suspect that it may prove difficult to persuade him but I'll sow the seeds.
I like the Kelvedon hub but I' m reluctant to start mixing my supplier when it comes to the important stuff.
Will you be at Malcolm's?

I won't as have big party at home - are you building a similar car, perhaps we can compare notes?

Hi David, those are similar hubs to the ones fitted on my Elan too.
In fact I lent Pat Thomas mine and he made this new version which is an improvement.
Looks great..

Hi Gino

Followed your build and found it very helpful, hope the car is going well.

Hubs look good, the Plus 2 calipers I have fitted at the front seem to extend further out than the flat face of the hub so hoping the (26r) wheels are going to fit OK!

Hi David....the 26r wheels are the real look but when you weigh up the cost you can have two or three sets of minilites made up with the correct offset and incorporate the extra offset you need.
Re the larger callipers; you could fit some spacers ?

Hi Gino - you are right - they look the part, are very expensive and it would be nice to have more than 1 set - the minilites look great on your car too.

I have thought about getting a second set made up from this supplier, they will make to size/offset and also paint as required:-

I'm building a race car, it probably won't be too dissimilar to what you are doing but obviously needs to be 'in period' for FIA accreditation. I have the +2 calipers on my road Elan. They work really well without MC changes. I;m afraid I don't know if the 26R wheels will fit but I see no reason why not. kelvedon do an alloy one. I don't consider it overpriced for what it is.
Whereabouts are you?
