First Elan home and an incredible 4th overall out of 101 entrants (preparation by Ebbs Classic and Competition).

This car also won its class and did a 2:57.663 lap time (Lap 89 - damp conditions...in the dark!) :

Wedel car (retired, but is usually a very active competitor at the front). The second picture shows the repairs after the car was clouted by the very careless Halusa E-type.

Raceworks doing a gearbox change after the AP clutch plate broke after about 3 hours:

Quick test on the jacks before sending Andrew Lawley out...

This car was shared with Tomlin / Meaden and finished 72nd.

The combined clutch and gearbox change was completed in just under an hour by 5 mechanics and the car set a 3:03 lap time as the track dried after this intervention (Lawley).

Photos of the nicely finished Penson car (retired after the first driver, who will remain nameless (but it was not Penson or Hoy) buzzed the engine with multiple 10,000 rev downchanges!)!

This car is a very early S1 Elan with good attention to detail.

Thanks great pictures!

I see a few Elans have multiple stripes of ducktape or similar across the rear screen.
Is that just to help reduce getting dazzled by spotlights?

Yes Innes. I'm not sure it helps.

The best strategy IMHO (having done the 6H race 7 times back in the nineties and noughties is to fold mirrors away to avoid being dazzled.

You can usually sense when someone is behind you (by being floodlit !) and on the track it is their problem to overtake not yours. It is best to stick to the line or clearly indicate.

Via Instagram it's says they are custom hand made arches by Neil Myers grafted on to the Bourne body.

Excellent video...it very accurately shows how a wet track makes it very difficult for powerful cars to escape the smaller engined cars.

If you would like to read more about the 6H race meeting (yes, I'm about to honk my own horn), I have done a write up in Via Retro, which is a website / blog for fellow anoraks.

Please note that the really good exterior photos were done by fellow Forum member "Mike Spence":
