I need to purchase cable to make the battery cables for my +2.

What gauge wire was originally used?

The positive cable is a long run. Is it advisable to use a heavier gauge
cable?

Are solder on terminals adequate or should they be ordered from a cable
assembly supplier?

It seems to me that most of us are spurious characters - otherwise we
would be driving Toyotas :-)
But yes, Steve's posts seem to have a translation problem, unless the
&gt is a new car model :-[

It only happens when I use my webmail access. I will investigate and see
if I can fix it.

Has anyone used the Odyssey dry cell battery?

They have a small size suitable for my Elan +2. They do not leak acid as
they are dry, but are they sealed from ?

Thanks

Hi Bob,
I'm using Optima AGM batteries in my Elan, GTV and TR6. They are great,
but may require different mounting brackets. They are slightly wider
than the tiny battery previously in the car, but a little shorter, and
have way more reserve power, don't leak, and can handle deeper
discharges. In my Elan, the battery overhangs the spare tire well about
1", but that's not a problem.

In my opinion the Odyssey is the best out there right now. I used them in my
Elans.my Seven and my tractor.

You can see a few installations at www.lotusowners.com
<http://www.lotusowners.com/> Go to the upgrades/repairs link.

I used Optimias but they died after a few years. My Odysseys are going
strong.7 years after I installed them.

Great battery.

I have one in my S4 and I am very happy with it. Nice and small to fit
and has plenty of juice to spin the engine.

I concur. I replaced the Pep Boys 40# lump with an Odyssey 680.
Save 25 lbs and it powers and starts the car with no issues.

Colin would approve.

Similar I believe, size wise, to the old Varley batteries used on British
racers in the 60's. I believe the Varleys were also sealed, but also were
lead/acid. I'm not sure. Anyone out there able to make a comparison?

Can anyone recommend a supplier for 2/0 battery cable and terminals.

I would like to find battery cable made in the U.S.. It appears it is not
readily available. The only site I have been able to find is wiring
products.com. Any others?

Thanks

I used a local company here in Buffalo called the Battery company. I cant
find a website for them.

I had them make one up for my Seven.10 foot long as I recall. If you want me
to have one made up for you.let me know.

You can also go to any construction company outfitter. The guys that make
hydraulic hoses on the spot. Many of them also do cable.

I was considering making the cables myself. Solder slugs are available for
each terminal and wire gauge. Placed into the terminal melted with torch then
the stripped cable end is inserted. The previously placed shrink tube is
pushed over the terminal and heated to shrink. Appears to be easy as DIY.

I need a cable for battery to ground, positive to cut off switch, cutoff
switch to front of car and solenoid, solenoid to starter.

I hoped to do these myself.
