need confirmation of an S4 body line...

PostPost by: grat » Fri Sep 01, 2006 7:06 pm

I'm working on the fiberglass front end of my S4 this weekend, which was
heavily damaged some time in its past life and repaired poorly. Most of
the damage was to the left front and under nose/ air intake area. I've
noted that the right fender above the headlight opening, along the top
highest point has sort of a ridge that runs from just forward of the
wheel arch to the top of the headlight opening down the 'crest' of the
fender, the left fender doesn't have this ridge. I'm assuming that the
ridge is the stock appearance. Could someone confirm this for me as I
don't have ready access to another S4 to compare to.

(I can post pictures of what I'm talking about if this ramble doesn't
make sense)

thanks,
fj..

fj,

Your post prompted me to go out to the garage and look at mine. I never
noticed it before, but indeed there is a ridge on both front wings (US fenders) as
you described. However, on my car, the ridge goes way past the wheel arch,
extending to the rear of the bonnet (US hood) where it disappears. The ridge
is about 36" long.

Hope this helps.

On my Sprint, the ridge is present from the top of the headlight opening
running back and flattening out such that it no longer appears at the rear
of the hood (bonnet) opening.

You got me thinking as well, so I had to check it out. My S4 also has
a prominent ridge on the left fender starting from the back of the
headlamp and flattening at the end of the bonnet and the right side is
much more rounded. Was this factory option that I wasn't aware of? It
doesn't look like a repair. Dan

probably not. After all the posts I went back and looked
closer. the right side on the top fender (wing) flattens in the middle
but does have the ridge on the front near the light opening, and in
the back continuing to the rear edge of the hood (bonnet) opening as
described. What I discovered is the ridge is also on the left side
near the back edge of the hood (bonnet) opening. I had missed this on
both sides. If I had noticed to start with I might have been inclinded
to think that it rounds off on top of the fender (wing).

Thanks for the feedback guys, it helps.

All this 'merican (english) is distracting. ;) too bad we
don't speak the same language. (truth be known, I like yours better
than ours most often than not).
