I am considering replacing the dashboard on my S3 coup? and was wondering if
anyone on the list has any experience with the replacement products
available. UK vendors Paul Matty can supply, as can Classical Dash, either
in original teak or burr walnut finish. Can anyone tell me if these are any
good?

Hi Jeff,
Have ordered both the walnut +2 and S4 veneer dash from Paul Matty
about 3 years ago... no regrets. Now what's left is to order just about
everything else...
Cheers,
Brian

I had my dash done by a specialist veneer company here in Cape Town in teak
( they can do burr walnut) .
Very good job indeed - I did not varnish the dash afterwards bur spayed it
with marine quality clear polyurethane, much improved resistance to UV

Hello all,
I have been talking with a company called Madera Concepts in Goleta,
California about making a new dashboard...has anyone done business with
them and care to share their experience?
They are quite a bit less than Prestige Autowood, and also want a lot
less time to turn it around. He will be using my old one as a template,
as opposed to Prestige using their own templates.
Thanks in advance,
David

I don't know who Rich Kamp of Kampena Motors uses for dashboards, but
they are truly beautiful, with appropriate lettering beneath a thick
layer of poly varnish. Anyone know who makes Rich's dashboards?

David-
I've dealt with Madera Concepts for replacement wood for my Jensen. They
were knoweledgable and helpful and the quality and craftsmanship were top
notch. I can recommend them highly from that experience. (Note - I still
haven't ordered an Elan dash from them, but I've been wanting to ever since
I completed the Jensen... If you do order from them, how about reporting
back on your results...)
Regards,
-John

Thanks, John. I will.
And thanks to the others who responded with Prestige Autowood. I did
call both places. Prestige will do one for about $700 in 8 or 9 weeks.
Madera is about $400 and much faster.
I'll let you all know how it turns out.
My existing dash does not have the wording under each switch, and I plan
to have the new one be that way as well. i know it's not original, but I
prefer it. (Go ahead, feel free to rant back at me on this...i'm curious
if there is a consensus!)

Hey David
Personally, I like the lettering and had my dash constructed in that fashion,
however, I had plugs made to blank out the ash tray along with the radio,
they are removable should I decided to use them in the future. I feel that it's
your vehicle and you should assemble it in a way that makes you happy when
driving it, besides, Chapman never constructed 2 vehicles exactly alike !!!

Rick
