I have an S4 SE Coupe 1970 used mainly for hillclimbs and sprints. I have just converted the rear struts to accept 2 1/4 inch internal springs with adjustable spring seats. This enables the use of Elan +2 5.5J knock ons and 175/60 tyres, more modern rubber (Bridgestone Potenza RE 720, Goodyear Ventura or Yokohama 510 spring to mind).
This does however reduce the overall gearing by about 6% mostly an advantage in hillclimbing and does not cause any problems with the tyres rubbing at the rear.Depending on how the steering rack has been set up tyres can rub on full lock on the anti roll bar, this can be easily fixed by altering the lock nuts on the rack.

Skip,
Ha ha! Well, he was so many people in one, I think it would take a committee
made up of those of us who knew each aspect. Alex Bollinger, you, me, someone
who understood his poetry and maybe a customer or two on each end of the
spectrum of satisfaction....
I wish I could remember some of the repartee he would impart when he had a
potential regular customer on the hook ("regular customer" being someone who ,
being happy as lark with his current Lotus, would get a phone call from Bob
and would suddenly find himself driving a completely different one).
At least he spent the time to convince them they were fortunate to be in the
presence of greatness (human as well as automotive). These days, you're
handed off to twelve specialists ending with the guy who takes your money
before you take delivery.
I miss him and others like him. No, strike that. No one was like him.

I have Tony Thompson's hubs, They are listed as "narrow offset 26R hubs

cannot compare offsets. You might ask Tony when you fax him.
I did not see any evidence of contact with the body on my standard Lotus 45
DHC, which as you might recall I was using for vintage racing (pretty
relaxed in these parts, but which would have deflected the tires
sufficiently to bring out any clearance problems).
I will make some measurements on the Dunlop CR65s and will revert.
