diff drive flange

I am rebuilding a 3.77 diff and found that the lateral runout of the diff
flange ( a new one ) varied between 0.001 inch and 0.003 inch ( measured on
bolt circle diameter ) when fitted in different positions .Is that within
tolerance? Also the turned down recess ( to centralise prop flange ) runs out
about 0.002 inch.
Thanks for any comment!
Regards Hans

As Andres warns, make sure the new flange matches the propshaft flange.

As for runout, I have never checked this but will keep it in mind if I run
into mysterious vibration problems someday. I can think of three things to
try:

1. have the flange machined to your satisfaction (I don't know the tolerances)
2. obtain another flange
3. install the diff, bolt up the (balanced) propshaft and drive. If you
notice vibrations that can be traced back to the runout, bolt the flange
180 degrees from where it was and try again.
