My farther in law runs a small engineering company and will make one / a set
for you.
Or even severalsets if several people want them.(That would make them a bit
cheeper)
He would need the dimensions and a worn one or an enginnering drawing.
this isn't a quote
If any one whan't his address or to persue this then send me an email.

Brian,
Thanks for your offer, but I already have facilities to a number of
machine shops. What I was looking for was off-the -shelf replacements (if
available), to avoid having to take the car off the road and remove the
rack and then wait for whatever time it takes to make up a replacement. I
find it saves a lot of unecessary work to draw on other people's experience
before getting stuck into the same work all over again.
Best wishes,

Sean,
Paul Matty (UK) recently refurbished a steering rack for me. They should be
able to source parts for you. In the alternative, try some of the Triumph
parts suppliers, like Revington and Moss Motors.
JAE (U.S.) <[email protected]> apparently also has parts for the Elan rack.
You might also try him if sources closer to home yield no results.
Regards,
Andy

Randall,
I have contacted Jeff at JAE, as you suggested. He indeed has the tie-rods
for the Elan at $34.00 each, and I have ordered a set. I had a difficult
time locating these (and I search worldwide!), so JAE may be the world's
only source.
You will recall I had to shorten my original tie-rods to fit the bent
steering arms for the larger front discs.
Thank you for the tip.
Regards,
Andres

The Elan tie rods as well as (early?) Esprit tie-rods had long been
unavailable so Jeff at JAE found a manufacturer and had them made. Keep
this in mind when you are told by a supplier that such-and-such a part has
long been unavailable, the next one you contact may have hundreds on the
shelf. Lotus parts especially for pre-1980s models don't all come from one
source, and the various suppliers don't share rolodexes. Even I reproduce a
few Lotus items and sell through some suppliers.
