Andres is correct. The switch is located on top between the
Cover and the Bell Housing. It is in line with the
Reverse Shift Rail (the rod inside the trans. case) and is
actuated by it. Not all transmissions came with the switch.
The P.O. installed a close ratio (2.51:1 1st gear) trans.
which did not have the switch and left the wires loose.
During the great rebuild of '95 I drilled and taped the case
for a stock switch which works perfectly.

Small boring question...

Where is the switch that operates the reversing lights situated, and how
do I access it?

Thanks in advance

David,

The switch is on top of the gearbox. On a "baby" Elan, you can just reach
it from the engine compartment.

David,

I think it is the tranny tailshaft. Look for the lead and unscrew the
unit. The lead is green if I remember righly.
