Throttle linkage on Dellortos..

PostPost by: brettengelaz » Tue Aug 31, 1999 5:37 pm

The DPO of my Elan had fitted a set of 40 DHLA's to the car, and while
they work great, the linkage appears to be quite a bodge... Instead of
having the cable pull the throttle crank, he has the cable anchored to
a bracket attached to the manifold, and the cable _sheath_ on the
throttle bell crank! Thus, the cable sheath lays across the engine and
moves about 2in as the throttle is opened and closed . Is this the
normal method for the Dellorto conversion, or is he missing parts?

The only "easy" fix I see is to install a much longer throttle cable and
route it underneath the carbs so the cable (not the sheath) can pull
down on the throttle bell crank..

Ideas?

No problem in principle of having the sheath move/inner cable anchored.
Elan Webers had this setup with the cable anchored to the airbox, sheath
moving the throttle linkage. So long as nothing fouls and you get wide open
throttle, should be OK.

Hi,

If it's any help, I have a webber Elan and a Europa with Dellortos - they
have similar overall arrangements but with opposite ways of operation -

The dellortos on my Europa have the throttle cable mounted using the back
plate for the airbox. The outer cable is fixed underneath the carbs with the
inner wire nipple going upwards to the throttle spindle actuating arm. This
pulls the throttle spindle from beneath. The lower mounting for the outer
cable allows adjustment.

On the webers on the elan, the set-up is reversed, with the throttle inner
wire nipple being fixed to the backplate bracket and the outer resting on
the spindle actuating arm - so the cable outer moves as you open the
throttle. There is an adjustment on the cable before it gets to the carbs.

I reckon the Europa looks the neatest but the throttle cable routes probably
preclude the same arrangement on the elan unless you get a longer cable.
