Does Anyone Have This Car?

Hey all,
In a cache of parts I acquired some time ago, I found an invoice from the PowerTrain Engineering Division of Lotus Cars Ltd. It is addressed to Mr. Stefan Williams at Lotus East and dated the 17th of November of 1969. Its for an S4 fixed head coupe, left hand drive, chassis # 36/9170, registration # UVG 761H, Engine # G.19517 and color (whoops, 'colour') yellow. We all know in the Lotus world that history, provenance, documentation of one's car (except race cars) doesn't carry the same weight as, say, an American muscle car, but I think this is pretty neat. Anyone out there have this car?

Just browsing and came across your posting. The registration UVG 761H rings a bell. I cannot check right now, but I will look out some of the S4 road tests in England at that time. Lotus press cars used similar registrations, suffix VG being registered in Norwich. However, what was it doing on a left hand drive car?

Tim,
I'm not familiar with how imported cars (to the US) were handled before coming here. Maybe Lotus had to register it first before shipping here. I do know that the owner of this cache of parts had the car many years ago.

Hi Greg

Have had a look at the books and road tests and this registration does not match them. Up to 1970 Lotus Cars Ltd apparently always registered their cars with the number 120.

I can only think that Lotus registered this car in the UK prior to shipping in order to make their sales figures look better!
