Progress so far

Hi Will,

Thanks, I am pretty pleased with the end result... not 100% with the paint coz I think he did a cheap, quick job.

The wheels are Tony Thompson 26R replicas, and the number plate digits have been with the car since day one. A quick web search couldn't find any but I'm sure Matty, Miller and CNiels has them.

The paint! The paint! 100 hours crossed off on the garage wall like a prisoner! I used a small chisel and carrier bag of sandpaper/wet and dry.

Good luck

Paul

PS I expect you've tried the month of penetrating oil and a tighten/loosen reigime on the seatbelt bolt?

Well done Paul ,
"Elle est superbe !"
If one day "OEW" need a new spray , I definitly 'll go with the 26R flairs ...
And wheels!
Just a question , what cams on your twincam !?!
I just rebuild mine with Q420's and get allmost the same reaction from my son , too.
Christian.

Thanks Christian,

I also have QED420's. Attached is the dyno sheet from the engine rebuild.
The original crank was cracked, so used a Mexico one (I think) with bigger pistons, and corresponding bigger stroke, bore and capacity.

I posted this once before but cant find it :?

Not dyno-tested yet ...
Still waiting for starter spares ...

Paul -

The car looks very nice in the pictures. What is it about the paint that you don't like ? certain paints can be worked post application to improve the finish
it would be a shame to go to all the trouble and not have the finish you want.

BTW - thanks for posting the dyno sheet on the engine , I have in mind to build up a long stroke, std deck motor and wondered what the improvements would look like on the dyno - did you port the head ?

Hi George,

I've moaned before on here about the painter, so it's time I got over it, suffice to say paint's thin, silver overspray, stonechip on the valences(why?!) and a monky's ham fisted jacking...

Over the years I've had the head ported and played around with several times - Baldynes in Biggin Hill and QED being the last two. Racing Fabrications did this last rebuild and apart from new 420 cams and everything new on the head, no porting this time- according to the invoice/quote. As for the bottom end - 83.5 JE pistons, change to square mains, ARP bolts etc lots.

I know this is an oldy, but I saw a picture of Paul's S4 on the post about TTR roll bars and fell in love with the arches. They make the car look so much better than the usual squared off S4 arches, which my car has. Paul, just to confirm, the wings come from TTR? What size wheels and tires are you able to fit? Thanks, Dan '70 S4

Hi Dan

Yes, wings are from TTR, and wheels too - 6x13 - 205/60x13 rears and 185/60x13 fronts

I really love the look of this car. Even if you're unhappy with the paint it looks fantastic in the photos! That rear 3/4 shot is just right, the arches giving it so much more aggression.

Hi SadLotus,

I really appreciated those photos and didn't realize how invasive it is to the original bodywork fitting these panels.
What a nice job you did, a the end result is fantastic.

Beautiful looking car, the paint looks more than fine in those photos. The rear arches are perfect, how they should have been from the factory, look so much better than the squared off ones.

Is it all finished now?

Yes all finished now thanks - been on a couple of driving/track days and a couple of European jollys, a long weekend around the Normandy Landing beaches and a trip down to Maranello (Ferrari Town) all good and no probs (shouldn't have said that!) Gonna be Le Mans this year 8)
Always little things to do tho, new glovebox hinges next on the list....
