Need some help - owner incompetent

And I thought that I was done - until the water started to disappear from the cooling system. Well, you know where it went

Rather than do it piecemeal, I want to take the engine to a good shop in the Northeast, but not one that will only do complete rebuilds. AFAIK, the head/block surface is the only problem, but I do want someone who will check out the rest and tell me about it so that I can make up my own mind about how much I can have done.

I'd contact rdent enterprises in Pennsylvania. Very helpful and non biased.
Are you sure your problem is as you think? Do you see any steam out the exhaust?

I would echo Eric. If it's not coming out as steam from the exhaust, and there's no evidence of water in the oil, then could just be a core plug leaking.....

The oil is definitely in the crankcase. All foamy and grungy (emulsified, that is). I'm tired of trying to get things right myself, so I'm looking for a good, experienced shop.

Contact Bill Mc Curdy at Williams Racing in Harvard MA, (978) 772-0220. He has built and rebuilt a dozen race and street motors for me and various friends. He is VERY meticulous and not cheep but you can work with him within a budget and it will be right when it is done. There is no one that comes close to his expertiese in the New Englang area.

when I get to the point where this dumb current owner needs professional help I have had very good luck using Automotive resotorations in Stratford CT.


They work on lots of really expensive cars but the owner used to own an elan and their rates are not extortionary.

Automotive Restorations, ahhh, brings back memories. Around 1979, I worked for these folks for about 6-months, prior to returning to the University of Connecticut to get my engineering degree. At that time, Kent (my friend Gene nicknamed him the "bondo bear") was in partnership with Mark Evans, who later split to form New England Classics. During my tenure, they imported a lot of British cars and I got to drive some them, Mini's, Lotus 7's, modified 240Z's, Marcos's, and Elan's. My current S2 Elan amoung them, thou my purchase was thru an intermediate owner. All in all, they did a pretty good job on their resoration subjects.
