Has anyone got...

..... Avo rear strut inserts fitted. I'm rebuilding an S4 and have bought some AVO's for the rear. However, even with the strut lock nut fully screwed in I have about 10mm up/down movement of the strut in the tube. So....

Is this normal on AVO's?
Should I pack at the top or bottom?
Can I buy the spacers?

Thanks

PRETTY CERTAIN THAT ALL INSERTS SHOULD BOTTOM OUT AND THUS NO FREE PLAY. SOUNDS AS IF THE AVO INSERTS ARE TOO SHORT. IF YOU CAN FIND A NON AVO INSERT THEN COMPARE THE LENGTH OF THE STRUT - CHRIS NEIL AT NORTHWICH PERHAPS

Hi Mark

Pack the bottom of the strut tube with something solid and assemble. The Struts are probably shorter to keep the shaft short thus preventing the struts themselves from drooping too much and causing the CV/sliding spline U-joints from locking.

I recently installed Tony Thompson rear strut inserts that were shorter than the original units; they came with a spacer to go into the bottom of each strut tube to compensate.

Sounds like you need similar spacers from AVO.

Hi,

I had a similar experience with a set of Gaz shocks, when I spoke to the guys at the factory they where very apologetic, and then they sent me a spacer for each shock. Spacer went into the tube first and the shock sat on top.
Stopped the rattle

Chris.
