Hi,

I've got an Elan with a clutch problem....and am curious as to the best way to proceed:

Pull Engine
Pull Gearbox, or
Pull Entire drivetrain

Appreciate the help.

Regards,
David

If its a two seater Elan you need to remove the engine only unless you have a Spyder chassis because the engine/gearbox wont come out in one unit.

It's an S2 roadster...
Engine looks like a snap to remove!
Thanks...

The engine / trans WILL come out as an assembly (tight fit) on a S2.

Done it a time or 2

I replaced the clutch in my S2 last year. Advice I got was about
50/50 for either way. I ended up pulling the engine and tranny
together as a single unit. It is a tight fit and took a bit of fooling
around to get it in and out. If you pull it as one unit, make sure
you get a lift setup that can easily change the angle of the
engine/tranny combo. It needs to go in steep and then level out
as you get further in :)

good luck
John

PS this was the original lotus frame

you can remove the engine and box together from a spyder chassis ,if your really clever you can remove it from underneath :o  ;)
