Wait, Wait, Wait!! :o

Gary E. Anderson and Piss-Ant are one and the same? I know I'm new, and it seemed rather amazing that we had these two Elan hoarders (wish I was one, BTW) in the Northeast. Am I wrong about this? I'm so confused.

Gary Piss-Ant:

I'm afraid we might need to see a photo of you in front of your collection, posted from both accounts, to verify your existence as a single entity  . You don't have an evil twin, do you?

In truth, this whole thread does bring up the realities of our changing world. Having worked in Internet startups for the last 16 years, moving about in the online world feels like second nature. You build up a healthy skepticism, but somehow keep it in check enough to generate legitimate personal and business relationships.

The love and ownership of 60's era cars often puts many of us in the generation(s) for whom the Internet represents a crazy world of disengagement. Kudos to those who have embraced it, and I hope that this thread and other experiences don't hamper the willingness of people to join in when you've found a good thing like this group and forum. I probably fall into the middle ground, at 47. Compared to many other online communities where the average demographic is in the 20's/30's, this group is generally supportive, enormously helpful, and good-hearted, even when ribbing each other. The younger groups can tend to be a bit of one-upsmanship, though not exclusively.

Personally, I've developed theory that for any new technology (cell phones, Facebook, eBay, etc), it will take society 25 years to develop appropriate social conventions that are generally accepted as the unstated rules governing behavior and interactions.

Best to everyone sorting this out for themselves, and even more, for their kids!

Gary,

piss-ant - appears to be typical British humor, to me anyway.
It appears we now know what your mother was thinking.

thats the good part
anyway, the internet has changed.
So has this forum.

I don't think that is quite the point Jim.
The inference made by 1964 S1 was that some members were "using multiple identities" which seemed to be reason enough for him to stop posting here.

With my fertile imagination I concluded that those "multiple identities" were chosen for probably not above board reasons.

On the other hand I, for example, changed my identity from my "proper name" to a pseudo-name after I discovered that these postings were to be found on Google & I explained this at the time I made the change.

It seems that I, amongst others here, am too naive to pick up on the undercurrents which apparently are present on here.

Cheers
John

Well you go back a bit further than me, but I think this forum has maintained a healthy consistency for the time I've known it, with friendly & very helpful members.

Or is this "change" something else that has gone over my "dolls head"?

The dark recesses of what I used to call my mind.....it was a popular drinking song. Get a name wrong, you'd have to drink another pint.

So whenever I see Gary's new name on the forum I think of philosophers and develop a thirst.

Oh dear what a dreadful penalty to pay

We sang the rude version of the lumberjack song; apprentice engineers are a crude bunch (but not a patch on doctors)

Oh dear, we're way off topic (or was that intentional :? )

Some years ago, while completing some paperwork, I happened to notice the pilot sitting in the left hand seat showing some photos to his colleague in the right hand seat. We proceded to discuss at length the wonderful, beuatifully restored US Navy training biplane that he was in the final steps of purchasing from the USA. Prior to leaving the aircraft, I was handed a card, withthe invitation to come have a ride :D .

Wind the clock forward several months and I found myself sitting chatting to the same pilot. I whipped out the card he had passed me, enquired on his recent purchase and wether the offer was still good.

A black cloud descended ... he was the 4th or 5th person to be caught in the scam sale and at the time was some ?70,000+ out of pocket  ... not a happy bunny.

"Piss-ant" is a very old English word to describe a type of ant that smelled like urine when it was squashed. Another version of it is "pissmire" more commonly found in English as spoken in Ireland. The word "piss" was an honest everyday word spoken by all classes of people, until Victorian prudery decided it offensive. I admit that I raised an eyebrow when I first saw Gary using it, but that surprise was quickly replaced by a smile. I bet most people using this forum find it easy to remember!
