A servo was an optional extra on most Elans.

Some of us had them and removed them and fitted softer brake pads.

Others have changed the serrvo for one more readily available.

The Front Bumper has two bolts at the two ends of the bumper pointing inwards from the sides. Those have to come off too.

Your middle 4 bolts might not be standard, I don't have them.

Most alternators have built in regulators not external ones.

That was my idea, but it's sad for the genuine respect

The piece of metal fixed with 4 bolts might be there to support additionnal front lamp
For the 2 bolts from the sides, look at the picture, the bumper is fixed to arch wheell with gel-coat and I want to separate them
That's the reason why I want to remove the bumper.

Your car has flairs on the wheel arch to accommodate the much wider wheels. If the bumper has been glassed in to them you will need a very sharp knife and be very careful.
Have you removed the centre bumper bolt, above the middle of the radiator grille?

Nice car ! I've seen it when i was looking for a Elan on Leboncoin (I'm French too !). Good to see you'll restore it to its former glory.
Hope to see your car back on the road quickly.

Hi everybody

2 questions about my 10/1965 elan:

1? Wich badges on the side ? 1963 champion or Indy champion ?
I just have one (63 champ) and I found nice to put one of each ...

2? Which rotor arm do I have to choose?
The red one or the black one (non cut out ????) by P. Matty ?

Thanks for answers !

26/4869 came to us with "World Champions 1963" on one side and "World Champion Car Constructors 1963 1965" on the other. The second one is puzzling because the car was delivered to the original owner in July 1965 and I don't think the constructors championship was decided at that point. It may have been added by a dealer during a service appointment at a later time. In any case, it was there when we bought the car in 1967. I asked the previous owner about it but he didn't recall it being added.

The 1963 badge is on the right and the 1963, 1965 badge is on the left, but I have no idea if that was the original placement.

I thought one of the badges was an Indy championship badge but I was mistaken.

Mine leaves the factory in Oct 65.
I just have the 63 Championship on the left and I wanted to buy one for the right side.
In Oct 65, the Indy 500 miles was won, the 65 Championship too.

My idea was to buy the Indy one, to be different ...

For an Oct. '65 car, I think the Indy badge would be fine. I doubt that anyone can say with certainty which badges belong on specific cars.

I'm no expert on this but my gut feeling would incline me to put a single badge on the driver side, World championship for RHD UK cars and Indy 500 on LHD US cars.

Like Andy says, there doesn't seem to be any consistency to the badges at the back. I very carefully looked at lots of pictures to figure out on which sides my S4 and World Champion badges should go, only to be told by the first Elan owner who looked that they were wrong!

My boot/trunk doesn't have felt/carpet on the sidewalls, and the badges are held on with small nuts. So I can easily unbolt them and switch them around. On an annual basis perhaps, until I get around to fitting carpet!
