Tim,
The engine number on 3342 is indeed LP1029. I sent pictures of the chassis plate showing engine number, block with number , and rear of head showing number to Andy at Lotus Archives to prove authenticity before he issued a Certificate of Provenance.

Hi guys,

does any of you have an early car with the original door pockets? I could do with dimensions and photos if possible,so that I can make some!

Hi folks.....I?ve just brought home an early Elan body.....just the body. It can be best described as "rugged". In its day it was LHD and had two round lights with the added reflector on each side in the rear. The tags are long gone. The only numbers to be found are on the firewall. The previous owner, an informed gentleman, pointed to what was (to me at least) obviously a four digit number on a dymo-label which had been applied during the manufacturing process. Some of the glassfibre has been chipped off revealing the red label. Above that, on the ledge, was a two digit number, which in no way matched the dymo-label number.

My guess (and it?s only that) is it is a series 1 or very early 2 and not a Bourne body.

Any thoughts. Thanks. Brad Moore.

Hi Brad

I think the dymo tape was used once Lotus began manufacturing the bodies - here is a photo of the tape on my S1 which I gather is the earliest registered with a Lotus made body.

Yep, Dymo tape was used for the Lotus bodies. Bourne's had their own small plate.

Hi All,

I just purchased this car in USA and it's now being shipped back to UK:
(Pictures to follow once it arrives)

Bourne body #: 26/0094
Unit #: 3082
Chassis #: 26/0097
Engine #: LP239
Self assembly car supplied in RHD format.

I'm trying to find the history of the original Scottish owner (J.Halley of Clackmannan).
If anybody knows anything about him, please get in touch.

Thanks

Posting this link to show details of 26/0196 - went to Australia (probably on the same ship as 0202).

Excellent, thank you very much.
It's basically complete bar a couple of odd parts which I've now almost sourced.

The car still has it's original Scottish number plates, but unfortunately the Clackmannan 'SL' plate records are nowhere to be found by the county council archivists!

Any leads would be appreciated.
thanks

Hi Collii,

Whereabouts are you in the UK?
