From https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra- ... exemptions

Historic vehicles
You can apply to stop paying vehicle tax if your vehicle was built more than 40 years ago. This date moves forward on a 40-year rolling system. Assuming the rules stay the same, when the ULEZ launches in April 2019, vehicles built before 1979 will be eligible to apply for historic vehicle tax class.

All vehicles that have a historic vehicle tax class will be exempt from the ULEZ. This tax class excludes any vehicle used commercially (for example, coffee vans or street food vans).

In line with the existing LEZ discount all vehicles registered before 1 January 1973 will be exempt from the ULEZ, regardless of commercial use or otherwise.

If your vehicle meets the above criteria and is registered in the UK, it is automatically exempt and you don't need to register with us. If your vehicle meets the above criteria but is registered outside the UK, you are also exempt, but will need to register with us.

Hi
You may already be aware but there are only a few weeks left of the “consultation” period for expanding the Ultra Low Emissions Zone out to the M25 circling London in the UK

this will result in some classic Lotus (post 1981) and other cars being charged £12.50 per day to be driven

this will result in me putting all my cars on blocks and waiting until they meet historic status, one of which will be two decades !

complete the survey and have your say ;

I, as many of us have watched the slow progress to add additional financial taxation for you to use your vehicles on British roads .
I listened with interest to an interview several months ago when the mayor of London was questioned about the continued taxation on 'all ' combustion engines.
Surprisingly the mayor went further by stating that 'ALL' vehicles , inclusive of 'ALL' electric and hybrid vehicles 'WILL' be taxed if / when used in the borough of London.

Andy Burnham , Mayor of Manchester continues to attempt to tax 'ALL' vehicles ( eventually) within the borough of Manchester.
Not just the city of Manchester, with signage being erected 35 plus miles outside the city of Manchester.
Embarrassed, Andy Burnham may be at being found out that his wife has financial benefits in having thousands of signs being erected , he continues to be involved in reviewing his initial plan to tax 'ALL' vehicles for using the roads in Greater Manchester.

We have been informed that the present Government is reviewing the spread of SMART motorways.
This development continues on the M6 approaching junction 27 , with the original plan for it to be extended to Preston and beyond.
I will guarantee that anyone using 'ALL' SMART motorways in the future will be charged / taxed for use of the motorway.

If you think for one minute that having an historic vehicle will exempt you from being taxed for driving on British roads , take a look at what the French are doing.
You won't only be taxed for the use of your historic vehicle , but banned from using it in certain zones .

If your really serious about off setting your carbon foot print, either kill yourself to reduce the worlds population ( a little dramatic I know ) or as is being promoted in cattle , wear a charcoal filled nappy to fart in to , to filter out carbon dioxide and methane.

I'm not against progress but I hate being lied to by our governments .
The tax on 'ALL' vehicles and road use is needed to explore and promote new energy and its safe use for the future of our planet.
Please stop shafting the motorist , and remember , your are not immune from this tax even if you have a hybrid or electric vehicle , guaranteed !

here in Australia ultimately I believe all vehicles ( ICE, electric, modern, historic) will be moved to a km / mile road use charge and fuel tax for ICE cars reduced or eliminated depending on where the road use charge is set. The road use charges will probably be scaled and higher in city centres and on motorways and during peak periods and lower on other roads and off peak.

Registration charges may also be taken up into the road use charge and eliminated as an annual payment per vehicle also.

In the end it may actually end up better for low usage classics.... who knows :)

cheers

Despite the title and contents of this topic.
Historic Elans are exempt from London ULEZ fees.
All vehicles that have a historic vehicle tax class will be exempt from the ULEZ. This tax class excludes any vehicle used commercially (for example, coffee vans or street food vans).

Bill,
Perhaps you should edit your post and add the word ... currently.

I don't believe they won't be coming for us soon :(
