Lotus Elan

PRODUCTION NUMBERS

PostPost by: ROADRUNNER » Wed Apr 24, 2019 4:32 pm

I've been fortunate enough to own various Elan derivatives over the years, but have currently settled on an S2 and two S3 SE DHCs.

The SE spec provides a great driving experience, and its a terrific model to look at, which led me to thinking of how many exist relative to the other models.

I'm sure, given the notoriously haphazard nature of Lotus' record keeping, the information may be hard to get, but nonetheless I'd be intrigued to know if anyone has an approximate idea - how many S3 SE DHCs were made in RHD form ?

No-one can give you an accurate answer. Tricky too to give an approximate answer.

However, I attempted to run down overall figures a few years back in an article for Club Lotus News magazine, which I attach below.

Re-reading the article I see it needs to be updated, as with the passage of time since I wrote it and additional information gleaned over that period, I can be a little more precise about numbers now; but only a little!

Hi Tim,

Thanks - great info, but sadly nothing specific relating to the 1966 S3 SE DHC model.
