Tested the windows this evening. Only one is responding so I will need to rebuild the motors. A fun little job that will be!

If they use the same motors as in the Plus 2, it is a GM motor and rebuilt units should be easily available for exchange, or at least they are over here so take that with a grain of salt.

You may also want to run an extra earth-wire from the motor directly to the chassis. Of all the things I did to refurbish my windows, that made made a bigger improvement by far in their operation than anything else.

Thanks Veg and noted.
I will run another wire and test it.
I think these motors are a ford escort wiper motor originally.
Easily repairable so shouldn?t take me too much effort to get them back in action.

The Elan S3/S4 window motors are different to the Plus 2. The Elan's motor was originally a Cortina wiper motor unit - which is probably the same as an Escort!

As we speak I am restoring the suspension parts. They are starting rough and ending up like new.
Crack tested and painted.

I think originally they came from an Anglia, but I could be mistaken.

Re the window motor, Roy McGregor who developed the S3 and designed the window mechanism says he started of with a Cortina wipe motor - see http://www.ferraritestarossa.net/clublo ... index.html

However, I don't doubt that a Cortina motor is the same as an Anglia.... :D

Which leads us to another question - who made the S3 window motor? It doesn't appear in the Lucas parts lists for the Elan (nor does the Plus 2 unit) so does anyone know who supplied them to Ford for use in the Anglia/Cortina/Escort or did Ford make them themselves?

Tonight?s quest. Full strip, check, prep and paint then assemble.
