Thanks to everyone who has sent messages through supporting this - the group is now launched - ?Lotus Type 26 - Elan S1 and S2? - I hope very much those who choose to join enjoy it, make contributions and that we can somehow link material back into this forum at some point.

The thing I like about this forum is, it covers all of the Elan models, with the exception of the M100. There is so much crossover between all of the models, diverse comments actually helps everyone. What more could you ask for?

?Any other thoughts and ideas about how best to create a type 26 resource??

Yes, contribute to this one.

Yes, thank you - I was thinking along the lines of a web page or similar as outlined in thread and along the lines of this one:-

http://www.lotuscortinainfo.com/

The challenge with a forum like this one is that consolidation of the knowledge (rather than a listing of topics across a very broad spectrum) is challenging to access and search, although it obviously works very well as a forum.

Right. And facebook is absolutely the wrong tool for creating such a ?library? site.

I think a clear statement of and agreement on exactly what problem you are trying to solve should precede discussing what tool to use.

A well-organized library site would be a) a huge contribution to the community and b) a tremendous amount of work for you.

Yet another place to casually post pictures and conversation simply fragments the community even more so is a) of negative value to the community but b) is easy for you to do. Is that why you are doing it?

What the Elan community needs is consolidation, categorization and indexing of data we already have right here. And that is just work. You could do that with Microsoft Word or Google Docs or Wiki

Anything else is just a distraction.

The wiki is there. Click on the link. I don?t have time to add content. We just need help on the materials.

Ok, this post is drifting O/T.... but somewhat relevant to the theme.

Jeff, whenever I've looked at the wiki it looks so sparsely populated that I give up and wander off elsewhere.

But..... it really is a great idea, just lacking in content to make it work. It should be the first stop when you're looking for detail rather than what I usually do, which is go to the search box and browse through whatever posts come up.

I've used the Elise one several times to help me out alongside the workshop manual so I can see the value. I also get that filling in data is time consuming, as is making sure that whatever gets there is accurate if only at the time of posting.

So how can we progress this ? I can see the main topic headings but Is there a detail structure or "how to add things to wiki" page somewhere ? (If this has already been addressed in a topic I've clearly missed it)

As with any commonly used software tool there is ample information both on the web and in book stores on how to create and edit a wiki. Try googling ?wiki?.

Facebook .. at this time is a monster that will be tamed soon or changed.. and I would have no dealings with a company of this sorts..

Facebook is a tool. Like any other, you can get good results if you understand the tool and use it well. Use it poorly and get poor results. I use the Historic Lotus Register and Type 14 groups on Facebook and find them useful. Just remember that nothing on Facebook is private.

The more the merrier, I post on Pistonheads, The Lotus Forums, 2 Facebook Groups including Historic Lotus Register. Those seriously interested in early Lotus history realise how difficult it is to get undiluted and correct information. It?s a work of detecting worthy of Sherlock Holmes to get to the real stories.

I like Forums in that they have discussion threads on specific subjects that can be concentrated upon, Facebook groups are more like chitter chatter, but they do turn up some useful things that can be investigated further.

It costs nothing to start a Facebook group, look after it well and it will thrive and produce benefits.
