Bought my 67 build S3DHC in 73 and it had these mirrors and the car came over with a service man that bought it in England and then brought it over with him, Gordon

That's the Talbot Berlin Jr. as on my Elan but mounted on the door. So, I guess they were used only on the S2 and S3 cars. Mine was sold out of Lotus East/Duchess Auto.

Vitalonis would appear appropriate for your car's period.

I am still tinkering away in my shed and cannot show any completed photos, but for my 1965 car I have bought some new period mirrors from Peter Denty (a well known restorer in Norfolk) as shown in the photos below:

Wolfe Racing attach these as shown below:

Frogelan, I went to Wolf Racing Products looking for that mirror attachment but couldn't find it.
Can you provide a link? Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, this company is a small racing concern in GB who only make parts for their customers.

This is one for the home builder / restorer.

I have a few extra photos if you are interested.

Yes, I'd love to see them. You can send them to me (or post them publicly) at gjz30075 -at- gmail.com
I'll attempt to fabricate.
Thank you!

I think that this can be built with patience / trial and error.

From memory the support drops below the fibreglass so that several fasteners can be used.

This is a good design and the best period correct / aesthetically pleasing that I have found so far. It allows the windows to be pulled down completely (although this is not particularly appreciated by the FIA rules...).

FYI the Peter Denty mirrors are very nicely made. I would however suggest that before you start bending aluminium that you do a test inside the car as it may not be easy to get the correct positioning. Shims etc may be required.

Hi Chris,
on my Sprint no door/wing mirrors but i have a curved panoramic interior mirror.
Which gives very good view. It goes on top original mirror with springs.
You can also get neat little clip-on for door frame.

I used these as I didn't was to drill holes in fiberglass. They attach to window frame and don't inhibit electric window operation

Personally, I think side mirrors look terrible on an Elan, however, function over form, especially if racing.
If you are going to stick one or both on, make sure you can see something useful with it. Positioning is the key.

There have been various on my Elan since new.

Dealer put the vitaloni sebring on driver side in 67. Painted to match car. When that broke in the 70's it was replaced with generic off the shelf at autoparts store. No memory on what they were. But think "rubberized muscle car side views". Those were on for many years and while not so attractive, they tended to not be noticeable either.

I replaced all of the above with Talbot on both sides. So much more attractive. But for me.... useless. I could never get any useful views from the bullet style mirrors no matter where i mounted them (I wasn't willing to throw them out on the hood). They were basically just on the car for show (and i agree the car looks better without them).

this is what is on the car now.

The TEX mirrors are period correct (contemporaneous if from other applications) and work fantastically. I never knew one could actually see behind them on both sides of the car just by glancing at the side view. lol
