This is a great information site, I don't know why I didn't post this before. Does anyone know the British racing green code color for a 1967 elan coupe? It does not have to be that year, I'm looking for a color I like. So far my choices have been the Jaguar BRG late models, nice, but is darker than I want and has to much blue in it. And again Jaguar 1990 BRG, better, but has a little much yellow. I know everyone's taste is diff, but I thought I'd try mixing up the lotus BRG colors. I can't believe how many different BRG colors there are?? Mackie, I'll send pics soon.

Had my original 1966 S2 paint color scanned professionally. If you're in the States then this applies. PPG paint code = 1972_Rolls_Royce_Brisket_Green was the closest match. It's rather dark and demure. Helps make the car more visually stealthy.

Just posting this to provide you with a baseline period reference.

This link was recently posted to the Elan mail list. It lists manufacturer cross references to 220 Lotus color codes. It may prove useful identifying potential "official" colors, although it's not referenced by year.

You are right there are lots of BRG's out there!

If you are not worried about total originality it is probably better just to go with a green you like. Certainly I always felt the 1960's Jaguar BRG was a bit dark and gloomy.

For what it's worth the 1960's Triumph Laurel Green is a pleasant BRG-like colour.

The problem is, it is difficult to imagine what a colour will look like on your car when all you have to look at is a colour swatch!

I painted my Elan 1995-1999 Lotus Racing Green Mettalic, and I really like it. It is not too dark, and almost too blue in sky light (bluesky), but then the sun hits it right and it glows. Of course since a mettalic BRG wasn't available for the Elan it isn't concourse, but I don't care.

If you check Mikes list it the paint code for it is there.

Thanks again for all of the help and suggestions with color choices, I believe I have finally found the color, I met an owner of a 1965 230SL mercedes on his way to a vintage car show in northern California, with a "stock" racing green color, that should have been one of lotus's choices for the elan. It's that nice! I'm meeting him there and I will be able to get the codes off his car. I'll take digital pictures and try to post them for color?? maybe the color will show. thanks Sarto
