PostPost by: gherlt » Wed Sep 22, 2010 10:18 am

Hi all,
"maybe" some is interested in this Elan, chassis 26/5590, LHD, as a restoration base.

Just few "minor" problems:
- due to overheating they put in a 1800 SEAT engine (original block present)
- therefore they bent the front crossmember a bit
- also the front cover is not original, now I do not remember if was the original modified or done new.
- it had a rear accident
- for the wider wheels they added the flared arches
- it sat there for 15 years (look at the donuts, and animal wildlife !)
- S4 rear lamps

any some other few things the eagle observer might find some more issues....

Car is located in Spain.

gherlt, (appologies if not spelt correctly)

Looks an 'interesting' project.... I live just outside of Barcelona, and currently have a sprint project back in the UK nearing completion, so have been looking for a LHD model for here. Although in this case I would probably return to original with a few sensible modifications.

Can you answer a couple of questions:

You mention it looks to have had rear end damage (what have you noticed, as it's not completely clear from the photos)

The deterioration around the edges of the 'top' is a little confusing - is this an aftermarket hardtop? (The rest of the body work is not a problem)

and finally, you say 'it's for sale', can you provide some indication of what price is expected, because this is not a normal project. I can easily go to view the car, but need an indication if it's financially viable.

I'll check back to see your reply, and if required we can discuss further directly or by email.

Thanks for your help,

Mike

Hello mike,
my name is Guillermo, I am in Tarragona.

Car had a read end accident, on image p10000 46,47 and 49 on the left side you see the "repair".
As far as I can remember they told me the repair has been done with original parts. but
You see in image DSC_1648, the tank is not original.

The roughness is from the hardtop.

Price: negotiation has been looooooong, price was an initially 20.000, today it is at around 9.000 EUR.
I offered 6.000 all the time as this is what I think it is max value. But thinking it right I dont have time to do such work, and I still have to work on my 72 Sprint. So I am retiring on this "bid".

Send me pm with with your contact details.

Regards

Guillermo
