'69 Elan S3 DHC project - USA

PostPost by: tedtaylor » Wed Jul 20, 2016 3:27 pm

Flipping a very complete, original and unmolested DHC restoration project. Many detailed pictures on my "hobby" website: http://www.taylormadeclassiccars.com/69 ... orton.html
Has Weber carbs, motor turns over freely, K/O spinner hubs, oblong tail lights, last on road late 1980's, previous owner back then started stripping the paint for a repaint job and never finished. Has brake booster. Missing one under sill chrome molding and one amber marker light for front fender. Has jack and spare wheel and "period correct" AM/FM radio, 26K miles.
Asking $16,500

What is the VIN?

Supposedly, S3 became S4 about March '68 or somewhere there abouts.

My '68 S4 is 36/7988.

David,

VIN listed on the advert is 456555, so would be a pre-super safety S3 for USA.

When did the side marker lights appear on the S3 in the UK? I have a 1967 without them.

Apparently the buyer felt the work needed is more than he is willing to put into it. Looks pretty much rusted out. At least a new frame.

My Dec 67 S3 S/E has the side marker lights, toggle switches and 3 point seat belt attachments.
It was UK delivery, but LHD, so I suspect it was a US citizen on foreign assignment.

Ebay listing was ended early. I communicated with the owner, he decided to keep it and restore it. FYI only.
