dsc_0041-small.jpg and

Completely restored with new Lotus galvanized chassis. VIN 45/9113. 4,200 miles since restoration.

Excellent running condition. Drives strong, handles like a.. Lotus Elan. Ownership known from 1973. Purchased by present owner in 2011. Had been stored for 12 years with nearly completed restoration. Detailed list of work done and photos. Present owner completed restoration in 2013. Has covered 4,200 miles since then.
Everything is in working condition, many new parts.
The car is in standard S4 configuration, with the following exceptions:
- Ignition changed to Pertronix (with upgrade of the tachometer)
- Proper modern electric radiator fan fitted with both thermostatic and manual controls
- Larger S3 radiator fitted to replace smaller S4, thus solving hot running problem
- Original air filter deleted (included) and replaced with individual Weber ?socks? inside airbox
- Vacuum servo deleted to solve front brake seizing
- 4 tires (Sumitomo 185 60x13) fitted to standard Lotus steel wheels (spare wheel included)
- Battery moved to center of shelf in the trunk (with kill switch)
- Alpine Radio, 2 speakers behind seats, electric antenna
The body finish is the only weak point. The car deserves to be resprayed for 2 reasons: the original finish was rather dull and the surface has water stains (photo 84) due to sitting outside for a few days under a tarp, and very minor cracking (photo 85). The stains seem to be imbedded in the paint. Attempts at wet sanding did not improve the condition. I decided not to have it resprayed but to offer it for sale as is to allow the new owner to paint the car to his/her liking. The asking price has been adjusted accordingly.

Update, Nov. 24, 2016: The car has been imported to the US and is now located in Florida.

Looks like a very nice car.

Can you tell us if you have any clearance/rubbing issues with the 185/60 r13 tires on this S4? Both on the wheel arches or on the inner apron in the front on full lock?

Thanks,

Thank you for the compliment. In the front, no rubbing on the wheel arches or the apron on full lock. In the rear, no rubbing on the wheel arches. The outside edge of the rear spring perches have been very slightly bent inwards to clear the tires so there is no rubbing. Please see pic 66: https://www.flickr.com/photos/auto-hist ... 191757953/

I must say this is the best ad I've seen in a long time. Nice, precise writeup and lots of pictures. And a price.

Thank you Greg. Thanks to assistance from Jeff Cocking, I have added a photo to the text. Thx Jeff. Now, who's going to be the happy new owner?

The car is not sold. It was imported to the US a few days ago and I wanted to adjust the price to include import duties and transportation paid. However, I have decided to keep the asking price at $32,500 US. The car is now legally imported to the US and can be shown and driven in Bonita Springs, Florida.

Now sold and heading to its new owner in New England. Thank you lotuselan.net for all the valuable assistance while I owned the car and for helping with the sale. Many happy miles to the new owner.
