... and near Montreal as well.
This one is a 1969 S4 SE DHC, Canadian market car - pretty much the same as a non-emission UK car, but LHD.
I bought it in May two years ago. The PO bought it in 1988, had extensive maintenance done but covered only 7000 miles up to 2006, after which he stopped driving it. It was always in dry, heated storage. I had hopes of reviving it to roadworthy condition within a year: it didn't happen. Owning and maintaining two other classics leaves me too little of this precious commodity - time. Current mileage shown is 37 625, some 1988 invoices show 30 000. Who knows.
Pluses:
- Starts, stops, and runs.
- Engine bottom end rebuilt in 1994.
- Head rebuilt in 2015 with new ("Big") valves, guides and seats, SE cams
- New Mallory distributor fitted in 1994; adjusted with proper advance curve
- Tubular headers and quiet exhaust system
- Fitted with S3 type rad and twin electric fans
- Fuel tank sealed and fitted with new level sender
- Suspension also revised in 1994.
- New windshield, tonneau and top fitted by PO and still like new
- Decent white respray, was originally yellow
- Original steering wheel in good shape
- Just completed full overhaul of brake hydraulics, including new dual MC
- Dashboard just refinished with proper glovebox (not on photos)
Minuses
- Still needs some fettling before it can be considered fully drivable
- Mild case of stress cracks and minor damage
- Medium case of "warped Elan doors" syndrome
- Needs new carpets, door seals, etc.
- 1988 tires will need to be replaced (I have a set of fairly recent Kumhos that I can supply with the car)
- Usual Elan k/o wheel issues (6 rims included, 1 1/2 are really straight)
