Unfortunately, due to ill health and family circumstances, I am not going to be able to complete the restoration on my Elan +2. I'm therefore offering it for sale. It lives in a Carcoon in my garage in South Dorset. The outdoor pics below were taken June 2013 when it visited my family's house in Italy for a couple of months. I drove it up to the house from the main road which was about half a mile up a steep winding driveway. The car hasn't really changed since, as it's been in the Carcoon. I have posted in my restoration thread re the mods to the car and work that still has to be done.
In summary:
Lotus Elan +2 S130/5, 72100986L, tax exempt since it was manufactured Oct '72, registered April '73.
Original twincam engine with matching number, rebuilt by QED and dyno tested showing 140bhp.
Voigts 5 speed Sierra gearbox, fitted and working with concentric slave cylinder.
CV joined driveshafts from Sue Miller.
SS braided fuel lines and brake lines.
Full width Aluminium radiator (the original one is still available and will go with the car, with the electric fan).
New dashboard and full set of wiring looms; the glovebox is already fitted to the new dash.
New fuel tank from Andy Wiltshire.
Full body restoration by SES, including fitting new windscreen, painted in cellulose Lagoon Blue, new roof lining and lining for rear side panels.
Original alloy rims, plus a set of replacement refurbished alloy rims (there is one steel rim also as seen in the photo)
Galvanised chassis and sills.
Stainless quarter window lower channels, fitted.
Single new K&N filter assembly to be fitted into the nose.
Stainless exhaust manifold (and the original is still with the car).
I've listed the work to do in the restoration thread, but the main jobs are:
1 fit gauges and wiring to new dashboard; all gauges are present and working, and have new bezels to be fitted. All switches are present etc.
2 Fit the dashboard.
3 complete the wiring on the car; the engine bay loom is in place but not fully connected.
4 complete fitting exterior trim; rear bumper, side chrome strips (which are with the car), weather strips on front door windows.
5 fettle the position of the radiator; it needs to be moved closer to the engine.
6 fit interior trim; with the car will be new carpets and front seat covers, and under dash trim including map reading light.
7 lap in the offside rear hub; it's bolted on but needs lapping in.
8 other little jobs like rebuilding the clutch and brake master cylinders.
9 refurbish the brake servo, if you want to fit one; I have the servo.
The engine runs really nicely, and the gear change is really good, and the brakes work.
There are numerous photos and posts relating to this car on the forum.
I can supply receipts for purchases including the body restoration.
I'm looking for around ?10k, and believe it would be worth around ?20k if on the road.
The car is ready to be taken away by trailer with non fitted parts piled inside.
Please PM me if you're interested, or PM or post just to chat. I can take extra photos and video if that helps.
Regards.
Sean.
