An exceptional, virtually one owner, 1973 Lotus Elan +2S 130 / 5
Lotus Yellow (L07) and Silver roof.

10001.jpg and

First owner from Feb 1973 until September 2016. He ran it until 1999 as a daily driver covering 70000 miles. Due to working abroad it then spent years in dry storage only used occasionally. After the first few services all the work was done by the owner. Prior to retirement, the car was send to Spyder Engineering for a full nut and bolt restoration.

P.O. - ?The car has never been in any collision and never suffered the crows feet of gel coat cracking. Interior is original.?

Works carried by myself since purchase. (Rebuild the Rebuild!)

Sept 2016 to Date (I haven?t counted ? about ?5000)

Engine
Stripped. Crank and rods crack tested and balanced.
New bearings
New Q.E.D Rings (+20)
New pump.
New inlet cam and followers & chain.
Rebuilt.
Cams timed and fitted with offset dowels to set at 109 degrees (1 advanced)
Water pump pulley offset corrected. (The belt was running out of line.)

Gearbox
Gearlever ball and gaiter replaced. Lever redesigned to be serviceable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSyhX_8 ... e=youtu.be
Front cover / release tube replaced with later Elite S1 (tube better retained.)
Box flushed 4 times to remove plastic debris.
5th plunger fitted with additional 1mm spacer to ease gear action.
Gear change cross shaft adjusted 1mm to left to get correct selector alignment.
(removes 3rd gear baulking.)
Breather added to gear change plate to eliminate pressure build up.

Clutch
Flywheel skimmed.
New driven, pressure and release bearing fitted.
New 7/8th clutch slave.
New return spring.

Distributor *
The (new!) fitted distributor had a wildly inaccurate advance curve. A correct Lucas distributor 23D (41189) was sourced. Overhauled by Distributor Doctor, probably better than new.
Accuspark ignition module fitted. Red, rivetless rotor arm.
Magnacor silicone leads.
The base plate was marked with a degree scale for easy ?tweaking?.

Fuel pump **
Replaced with HUCO low pressure fuel pump specifically for carbs.
https://www.dellorto.co.uk/shop/car-acc ... ump-133010
This eliminated the fuel smell in the garage. Wired via a separate switch from the ignition.
It allows the carbs. to be primed for an easy start / (With switch off) the engine to be spun without pumping fuel / the fuel tank to be easily drained for storage.
An in line filter fitted before the pump.
Oil gauge original plastic pipe replaced with braided.

Both door cards have been restored and curved to fit the inner door.

New door locks fitted as the original key was lost when the central locking was fitted.

Steel reinforcement bonded in around the aerial hole.

The Spyder Double Wishbone rear suspension system was found to have BOTH sets of hub bearings badly worn ? in 3000 miles!
Replaced with height adjustable, rebuilt Issue 18 struts.
The drive shafts have been crack tested and new bearings fitted.

Loads of smaller sundry jobs to rectify problems with the original rebuild + general improvements.
Such as -
Battery Isolator.
Boot Light.
New Boot Floor / Carpet.
Rebuilt (and reinforced) driver Seat. (The passenger seems virtually unused.)
Boot access hatch.
Gearbox breather.

80 Gb of video and images of rebuild.

I am offering the car for sale now as I only intended to keep it for 3 years and for personal reasons
I have other projects in line. Plus a son entering Uni and a daughter starting a horse stable
business!

Total cost over the 3 years about ?31000

I'm looking for ?26000

This a properly sorted car, someone should snap Vince?s hand off! A car like this being sold by Matty would be ?30k plus. Don?t miss out!

Thanks Slowtus.
Not quite perfect, I still have to get a Round Tuit to fit steering column bushes.

Cheers Elanfan1. As it happens I went to Matty's late last year and asked him for an opinion. I've been fixing any bits he didn't like. (Some of which seemed very trivial to be honest - underseal showing under the rear bumper / no carpet on the boot latch panel!) Maybe I'll go again. It could do with a good blat down the M40.
