1970 Lotus Elan S4 SE DHC 2 Litre Zetec
Heavily modified very nice drivers car. Not for the purists. The car was put together by my late friend John Pelly aka Grumpy Bodger. In my ownership I have been right through the car and carried out further modifications to John's fantastic car. I believe he was the first to do this modification.
The car was capable of around 200 bhp with it's Dunnell Spec when put on the rolling road after fitting carbs and Nodiz. Since i did not want the induction noise and wanted to keep the the cold airbox I settled for 176 BHP with a big flat torque line. I have the video.
The car goes like stink with the fruitiest noise you could wish for. Pulls from low speed in high gears and pull like nothing I have ever driven. Impressive.
Over 1000 miles on one trip around Scotland last year. Never missed a beat.
Drives and handle better than a standard Elan. I have restored a few.
Recent respray to Cirrus white. Was previously blue.
Mohair hood
Spyder chassis on Koni adjustable shocks etc
Heavy duty fully adjstable rear A frames
Running on 14 inch wheels
Camber set front wish bones
Bespoke Cam cover
2 Litre Zetec Silver top engine with baffled large sump. Prepared by Paul Dunnell.
Running on zx9r bike carbs and Nodiz ECU on cold air box
Big bore bespoke manifold and TTR silencer
4 speed close ratio gearbox semi helical heavy duty roller bearing gear set
3.5 diff with ATB diff
Full TTR drive train- billet diff output and outer drive shafts
Solid TTR sliding spline drive shafts
4 pot Willwood calipers with large discs
2.3 ratio servo
Roll cage
Burr walnut dash with alloy glove box containing fuses
Paul Dunnell water rail with changeover bypass thermostat - replicates Ford system
All new modern suited instruments - accurate. Electronic speedo
Complete leather interior
Faster modern window motors with one touch control
LED front indicators doubled as daytime running lights
Alloy fuel tank with pressure regulator and filter
Contact me by PM if interested for further information. With the greatest respect, please - no super low ball merchants as you will waste both our time.
If really interested come and see it. I will take you for a drive.

Hey ,
For all of us that really know Mike ... we know how well sorted this special little Elan is ... there is no way any of us can build a car to this specification , for any where near this price !
So , if you have a little space in your garage ... get your cheque book out ... & have a blast this Summer !
Paul .

Echo Paul,
Great car loads of history, most of it chronicled on this site, if anyone doesn't know Mike he's a top bloke, honest as they come and very good engineer, he's put a lot of time, money and effort into this car, Grumpy would have loved what he's done with it

A big thumbs up for Mike and all he has done to develop Grumpy's Elan.
A car for driving and enjoying safe in the knowledge that you can jump in and drive to Spain if you want and it won't miss a beat.
£34k? I think that's cheap, but I don't have the space or the need for another modified Elan, sorry Mike!

It would need black bumpers to make it perfect for David TBG
