Problems with PM

I've tried sending a PM a couple of times today and each time (eventually - after a couple of 're logins) I'm told it's been sent but they've remained in my out box and aren't in my Sent.
I've got plenty of space in all the folders.
Is it me or the system?
Any hot tips or procedure that has to be followed?

In my experience PMs stay in the outbox until read by the recipient.
