Wow, a reference to Henry Manney III! The days when Road & Track was actually a proper journal are a faint dream to me now. I still remember the first issue I bought (1966?) with a cover photo of the new BRM 3 liter H-16 on a dyno.

Thank you for your kind comments, however references to St. Henry are an aside so, please, kindly don't be hijacking my thread with R&T reveries, as fond as they may be for many of us Thanks. I must say what a great day it was when my man, Grime 'Ill went back to my fave car company Lotus.

Squeaking of thread hijacks; let it be known that, this very day, I took loads of stuff down to the dump in order to clear garage-space to start my re-build of a FHC looking not unlike that of our new friend Here's Jonny.

Hi All,
Here are some pics from the day before I lifted the body. Sadly, the ones taken the day I lifted it off and "drove" the car out from under the body were lost due to technology. Currently the body is sitting on it's dolly in the back of my garage and the chassis is sitting on it's table in the middle of the garage, minus the rear suspension.

Please don't be put off by my Ralph Lauren designer "Gorblimey Trousas" etc. I'm just a regular guy, always happy to talk to the little people but, when you've got it flaunt it, that's my motto. Anyway, the body is lifting the chassis by, as I later found out, the only seatbelt mounting bolt left in the entire car.

I must say that working on the chassis when it's at belt height is quite pleasant. Whenever I worked on chassis in the past, they dropped bits of crud in my eyes as I lay on my back on a cold cement floor.

You know, I understand the Elan is a tiny little thing, capable of even a modestly sized man look quite large. But are you something like 6'-10". My body unit's been up off the ground about 3' for the last 10 years, so maybe I'm all mixed up.

Anyway, congrats on the separation. Amazing how strong one bolt and a bobbin can be, eh? More amazing the strength of the surrounding fiberglass work.

Enjoy the process. Having everything floating at 3' off the floor really is a luxury. I can only imagine trying to stuff a 4-post list in my 7' tall garage someday.
