Hey all, does anyone have any pics and experiences of the Spyder fabricated rear hubs and uprights also the RSC on a otherwise standard syder setup ie not zetec

What dampers are used and what bearings in both types?

I am toying with purchasing a new chassis and was wondering about the fabricated parts or whether to go RSC

regards
Mark

I put up quite a lot of posts when I changed to Spyder chassis and Twin wishbone set-up; please look through the archives but do you have any specific queries?

If you don't have at least S4 wheel-arches or, preferably, 26/R there are issues with clearances; all previously discussed. Spyder will not tell you about the amount of bodywork changes required unless you ask them.

Hi thanks for the reply Pete, been trawling through the archives so i'll have a look at your posts. The vehicle in question is a Plus 2 rather than an Elan. Wondered about the Spyder fabricated rear bearing housings more than anything. Also just wondered if the RSC dampers were a special or 'stolen' from another vehicle.

Hi

I believe the rear dampers for the RSC conversion are from a Europa.

One day I'll get my Elan back on the road and find out how good the RSC conversion is, half way through fitting 26R arches!

I have no idea if any body-mods are required on the +2, I'm sure that Spyder will tell you, if you ask them.

No body mods are required for the RSC kit on a +2. I fitted mine about 7 years ago, after getting fed up of changing the standard rear wheel bearings on the car after 4-5k miles, and suffering cracks in the bearing housings. The kit was supplied with spax dampers and springs which lasted about 15k miles before a major fatigue failure (see pics). Spyder supplied new Protech dampers, saying they no longer used Spax units. No problems since then apart from the contact between the rear disc and the springs at extremes of body roll, and a wear point (visible on the pics) between the upper wishbone and the wheel bearing housing. Wheel bearings still OK after 60k odd miles since fitment. In the recent resto, the units where simply cleaned up and refitted (as in the pic), no maintenance required.
